The second
weekend of October Bill’s brother Leonard’s youngest daughter got married in
Temecula near San Diego. Tyler had the honor of being the ring bearer for the
event (although he didn’t really see it as an honor). Alana was very excited to
see Tyler all dressed up and rather than renting his suit we bought one since
it was about half the price.
The weekend started out well enough, we left
Buellton/Santa Barbara Thursday evening and made it down to the hotel that
night about 9. We checked into the hotel room and were immediately turned off
by the funky smell emanating from the room. We called the front desk and they
had maintenance come by. He sprayed the air filter and around the room and told
us it should get rid of the smell. Bill’s sister Cheryl and Leonard and his
wife Cheryl arrived and we sat down and caught up with them for a while. Then
Alana remembered something… She forgot our clothes for the wedding!!! Not just
Tyler’s new suit, but her dress and Bill’s suit!! After some discussion on
whether or not to just buy new clothes for everyone it was decided that it
would be cheaper to drive back up the next morning and pick up the clothes and
drive back down the same day. What a nightmare!
But the evening’s drama was not yet over. We had paid for
an extra large 2-room suite since we would be sharing the room with Cheryl.
When Cheryl opened up the sofa bed the mattress on it was almost nonexistent.
After a trip to the front desk they gave her a room upstairs for the night. The
next morning Alana left the hotel about 6 after a restless night full of
anxiety over forgetting the clothes and the noise from the freeway outside the
hotel. She made it to and back by 3 pm, just in time for the rehearsal.
Meanwhile, Bill decided that the smell in the hotel room was just too much to
bear and they changed rooms and moved up into the smaller suite Cheryl had used
the night before.
As expected, at
the rehearsal Tyler was very reluctant to walk down the aisle with his cousins.
During the last run through he walked down the aisle and then just stopped and
started crying, but Alana had an idea for the actual wedding. She bribed him.
She told him that if he walked down the aisle without crying that she would buy
him some candy after it was all over. It worked! He didn’t have a big smile on
his face, but he still made it down the aisle and afterwards he got a bag of
gummi worms, which he finished before we drove the 5 minutes to the reception.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get any photos of him walking down the aisle, but
we’re hoping the wedding photographer or family got some good ones.
Apryl looked absolutely beautiful and it made Alana tear
up to see her in her wedding dress. It was doubly special since Leonard got to
officiate his own daughter’s wedding. The reception was perfectly set up in
Kevin’s parents’ backyard and we had a lot of fun hanging out with our family
and meeting Kevin’s family and friends. Tyler had a blast playing with his cousins
and hanging out with his Aunt Cheryl and Grandpa Rose.
The day after the wedding while the
newlyweds started their honeymoon the rest of the Rose clan had breakfast
together. Then a few of us headed over to a local pumpkin patch (http://www.peltzerfarms.com/)
with a corn maze that Tyler absolutely loved. He wanted to go through it over
and over again. He eventually did take a break from the maze to go for a train
ride, feed the animals at the petting zoo, and check out the very funny and
very fast pig races. Oh yeah, and he picked out 2 little pumpkins to bring
home. After the dramatics of the previous days it was a nice end to the
weekend.
